It’s not too late to make a last-minute Christmas present. This hat pattern is available in four different sizes. This hat will fit children from 0 to 8 years old.

The pattern is layered. You can print your selected size. You can turn off the layers in Adobe Acrobat and print just the one you want. It will be easier to see the correct lines. You can find the option at View -> Show/Hide -> Navigation Panes -> Layers
Start with printing the first page and make sure the test box is 5 x 5 cm.
You can try printing on different paper formats but always select printing to 100%. Let me know if you have any issues.
Always make a toile before cutting through your favourite fabric.
Pattern assembly:
Ties are not included in the pattern. I made mine using jersey strips
Seam allowances:
1cm (3/8 inches) seam allowances are included. You can see them on the pattern
Ease
+2cm around the head (approx)
Recommended fabrics and extras:
Medium-weight knit fabric. You can also use woven fabrics but make sure there’s enough ease. You can choose a larger size. I used fleece back knit as the main fabric and heavy jersey for the lining.
Extras: hat straps (I made mine from 5cm jersey strips), pom poms
Fabric requirements:
Less than 0.5m required
Cutting:
Hat piece x2 on fabric fold: 1x from the main fabric and 1x from the lining fabric
Instructions (of course this is my preferred method, you can do it differently):
Stitch along the back centre of the hat. Sew also triangular shapes together forming the hat. Start 1cm from the corner. If you find it difficult to precisely finish at the top finish it by hand. Repeat for the lining piece.
Clip the seam allowances as shown in the picture.
Clip the excess seam allowances at the top to make the hat flat. Press with an iron. Repeat for the lining piece.
You have now two pieces. The outer layer of the hat and the lining.
Prepare your ties by folding the strips and sewing through the layers. You can also use ready-made straps. Make sure they’re soft enough to be tied under the chin.
Insert one piece in the other with the right sides facing and sandwich the straps in between as shown in the picture
Sew pieces together 1cm from the edge. Leave 3-5cm unstitched.
Using the gap turn the hat inside out. Slip stitch the opening.
Topstitch the hat 0.5cm from the edge.
Hand stitch the pom poms (optional).
Et voila! Easy, right? 🙂
