FREE Bluetiful Dress sewing Pattern

Front of Bluetiful Dress

I think you will love this one! It’s a simple dress but doesn’t it look amazing with epaulettes and large pockets on the front? It’s just such a Bluetiful Dress ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s for knits only. Choose a fabric that has at least 50% of stretch. It’s fitted around the bust and semi-fitted around the waist and hips. This dress is available in sizes from UK 6 US 2 to UK 30 US 26.

Sizing: If youโ€™re not sure which size to choose, check the measurements charts https://moonlightpatterns.com/measurements-charts/

Scroll to the bottom of the post to download the pattern, itโ€™s available in A4 and A0 formats. You can turn off the layers in Adobe Acrobat and print just the one you want. It will be easier to see the correct lines.

Start with printing the first page and make sure the test box is 5 x 5 cm.
You can try printing on different paper formats but always select printing to 100%. Let me know if you have any issues.

Whenever you can, make a toile before cutting through your favourite fabric.

Instructions (this is my preferred method, you can do it differently). Some pictures might be lower quality, I was sewing late at night ๐Ÿ™‚

Firstly cut all the pieces and prepare epaulettes. Sew them around and trim seam allowances. Clip corners and turn inside out. Make buttonholes ( this step is optional, you could sew a flat button through the layers with no buttonholes as epaulettes are a cute detail and don’t have any other function).

Prepare the pockets: overlock three edges and press the seam allowances to the inside. After that, topstitch the top edges and make buttonholes.

Making sure that the pockets are placed in the same place as the outline on the pattern topstitch them in place as in the picture on the left. Sew buttons in place by hand.

With front and back right sides facing sew arm seams using an overlocker or zigzag stitch. I used framilon tape to stabilise them.

Stitch buttons to the arm seams.

Sew shorts sides of neckband together with right sides facing. Fold neckband in half, lengthwise with wrong sides together.

Stretch the neckband evenly and pin it to the neckline. The seam on the neckband can be aligned with one of the shoulder seams or in the middle of the back, whatever is easier for you.

Once sewed in place press the seam open. You can topstitch it for a more professional look.

Secure your epaulettes with tacking stitch by hand and lay your dress open. It might be easier to hem sleeves before sewing the sides. Pin sleeves to the dress with right sides facing. Make sure that the notches on the sleeves and dress match and sew along the sleeve. Epaulettes are sandwiched in between the layers. Press open with an iron.

Sew sides of the dress and sleeves all in one and hem the bottom of the dress.

Enjoy your new dress ๐Ÿ™‚
